Here are the categories Brittany covers with her family fun:
Connection:
Strengthening
what are you goals?
do a balance activity -like juggling -then talk to them about what is hard about balancing. Then you relate it to real life, with just a minute or two to tie it together. Simple is best. Go in with a purpose
She also gives conversation starters for the end of the game
Family History
study family stories
record family stories
what memories are standing out the most
Service
less about the activity and more about focusing out
Fostering Growth
Learning new skills
home carpentry skills
arts and crafts: paintings, pictionary, photography, different art techniques, using nature in your art (like Patty Rokus: Helping of Happiness Podcast with Patti Rokus), sewing (Helping of Happiness: How to make reusable cloth napkins), candy art
when you are doing your art or project, don’t worry about the end result. Instead think: How does it make me feel? Did I enjoy the process of creating?
the goal on this game is giving kids a safe place to talk about things
learn about them on a deeper level- WHY are they feeling that feeling
power in naming our emotions
Making Lasting Memories
Traditional Memories: things that are happening regularly like her front porch games with her nephews, dance parties- letting the silliness go, sharing successes at dinner
Unusual Memories: what would you not normally do? Tweak it in a simple way. Ideas: eating dinner without utensils, having dinner as a picnic, playing Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
