FROM JONATHAN:

One of the top reasons marriages/relationships end is because of financial issues.

It's not usually the lack of finances that causes the divorce, but the lack of communication that causes stress and anxiety. Usually the problems start with differences of opinion, personality or expectations. One or both people feel like they have little control over their money and where it goes. That can be where it is spent, how it is invested, how much they can spend, or even knowing about where the money goes at all.

Each marriage can choose their own technique and approach to money in their marriage. What works for one couple might not work for you. However, you need to have a system that both of you agree on and understand. In this Series of videos, we are going to share some of our tips with you. We will teach you how to talk about money and the more you can talk about money, the more of it you will have!

Disclaimer- We are not perfect.  We have made lots of mistakes about money and have disagreements just like everyone else does.

Your beliefs, attitudes, values and you knowledge leads to your behavior today.

Coming from different families can create arguments & stress -  Grocery Store story

We learned to understand each other first and WHY we wanted to buy things.

Start at the beginning to know your past around Money.

Understanding your spouse's past.

Set time aside to discuss on a date or after the kids go to bed.

Ask each other questions.  Suggested questions to get started.

What was money like in your family growing up?

What has been your spouse’s experience with money?

How did you first earn and spend money?

What financial experiences affect your decisions today?

Hopefully you can look back on the way you were raised and do better than your parents. I have clients who became savers because their parents were always living paycheck to paycheck.  However they have siblings who are exactly like their parents, and still live paycheck to paycheck.  Either way, it is important to know where your spouse is coming from and why they react to money the way that they do

Here are the different money personalities:

Primary Personality - Spender or Saver Which one are you?

Spenders have less hurdles to overcome before they buy something.

Savers have more hurdles in their own mind that they need to overcome.

Secondary - Planner, Worrier, Avoider, Giver, Believer

We grew up savers and Planners.

Now we balance each other out and I am more of a spender.

Challenge- No matter what your experience has been with talking to your spouse about    money, take the time to talk and understand each other in the next week.

We believe that when couples understand each other and communicate about money then great things can happen.

Once you have had the conversation, you will be ready for our next video where we talk about setting and accomplishing goals as a couple.

Hope you enjoyed this and will have a better relationship and more money
